Porta Loo count =2
Today was a tough day. It started with us talking about the attacks in Munich and included a trip to Auschwitz. I know I was feeling pretty vulnerable, anxious and emotional.
It is tough when you are confronted with the very worst that people can do. This is not the place for me to retell what happened there. We had a condensed visit due to the numbers of pilgrims visiting this week. It is so hard to imagine the atrocities that happened there and even harder to let yourself imagine. However, I believe it is important that we do. We need to feel, to remember and to reflect for both those who died in the past and for those yet to come in the future.
There are many questions that you have when you visit a place like this. How did other countries let this happen? Where was God? Is there things like this happening in our world now?
I know that WYD is a beautiful, tangible expression of friendship and peace between young people and their respective countries. Surely we can be the change we want to see in the world.
There were many joys today as well. Mass in Częstochowa with pilgrims from Parramatta, a great lunch of Polish food and we are now in Krakow! We also had our first experience of porta loos!
I also love seeing how our group supports each other. We are kicking goals as a pilgrimage team.
Speaking of kicking goals, I just heard that the Saints bet the Bulldogs. Wooo hooo! A pity our Italian tour director doesn't understand how good this is!
We have arrived in Krakow. The WYD festivities are drawing ever closer and the excitement is building.
Tomorrow (well, today by the time I post this) we are off to the birth place of JPII.
